COVID-19

The COVID-19 Pandemic is a public health, social and economic crisis that is global in scale.  Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) must be integrated into the response to COVID-19. As with any emergency, PSEA should be a central part of coordinated humanitarian action.

The IASC Interim Technical Note: PSEA during COVID-19 response helps Humanitarian Country Team strengthen their actions to protect from sexual exploitation and abuse.  Country teams have adopted the IASC Technical Note for use in the field, examples can also be found below. The IASC Checklist on PSEA in COVID-19 is meant to be used as a quick reference card, representing minimum actions for project managers delivering in the field and in remote locations.

Watch now the IASC briefing on “PSEA including challenges during COVID-19 response” to hear what humanitarians can do to better prepare and respond, including during COVID-19.

The IASC Learning Package on Protection from Sexual Misconduct for UN partner organizations is an interactive and innovative learning package that aims to raise awareness among IASC partner staff and ensure they have the skills and tools to define, detect and respond to sexual misconduct. Training sessions have been adapted and focused to ensure maximum reach and impact to ultimately strengthen PSEA efforts during the COVID-19 response until in-person training sessions are again possible. To learn more about the package, please watch this webinar, which will show you the elements of the package and how to use them.

Social

Sexual exploitation and abuse represents a catastrophic failure of protection. It brings harm to those whom we are mandated to protect.

The Inter-Agency Standing Committee is working to scale up protection from sexual exploitation and abuse across humanitarian response efforts. This website and global dashboard has been developed and managed through the support of UNICEF. It is dedicated to providing technical support and resources to practitioners, and to tracking inter-agency, collective progress across countries with a humanitarian response.
